Play on Princess Diana revolts audience
BERLIN, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A play about Princess Diana that premiered in
Berlin this week provoked many in the audience to walk out.
The play, "Kaprow City," had Queen Elizabeth played by a dwarf and giving
a Nazi salute, The Times of London reported. A kilted Scotsman had his pubic
hair shaved on stage, and the actress playing Camilla Parker-Bowles, now
Prince Charles' wife, was spattered with animal blood.
"It was Big Brother meets Buckingham Palace," the newspaper BZ said.
"Princess Diana did not deserve this and nor did we."
The play is directed by Christoph Schlingensief, known for provocative
stunts like locking a group of illegal immigrants into a container in Vienna
and encouraging Austrians to vote on which one should be deported first.
His point about Diana, apparently, is that the public would not leave her
alone, and that fascination may have helped kill her.
"There were easier ways to express this not particularly astonishing
idea," BZ said.
